What I like Wednesdays- Etsy

Right now I'm having a love affair with Etsy. I'm spending more time on Etsy than I am doing crafty things! I'm even neglecting my adorable hubby, who keeps giving me puppy eyes and asking when I'm going to play with him. I've gotten to the point where I'm not looking at him anymore, because I can't resist those big blue eyes.

(Still ignoring hubby.) I've been toying with the idea of opening up an Etsy shop for a while now. But, being me, I'm afraid to for several reasons. 1) I'm so ADD I hardly ever make more than one of anything because I get bored after the first one. 2) My interests are sooo wide ranged, my shop would have a million different things in it and no one would be able to keep up. 3) Fear of failure, but that's a given right? No one wants to fail, and taking chances may lead to a failure. So blah, blah, blah, sob story for Amie. That's why I finally got on Etsy and started browsing around, checking out my "competition." Bad idea. I ended up finding ridiculous amounts of things I loved.

It started with these. Lovely silver maple leaf charms. Hello perfect fall themed jewelry! Bought 'em. I browsed around the shop some more and saw these:

Have I ever been one to resist a cute kitty? No. Bought 'em.

One thing lead to another and I felt like I bought out the entire shop! (Can you tell what my current crafting kick is?) And did you notice my new hanky?

It IS beautiful isn't it?? It's a vintage crocheted hanky, and it was free. That's right, free. I paid the 20 cent listing fee and the sweet shop owner sent it to me for free. How amazing is that?? I plan on turning it into something like...

This! From the lovely and talented Disney. Just need to find the perfect cardie to do it with.

Oh Etsy. How I love you. Some good did come from my shopping spree though. I did open a shop!! Downside: nothing is in it yet. Soon enough my friends, soon enough.

I'm so excited you went for it and can't wait to see what you do add.

Run away from an internet craft business!!! Watch Big Bang Theory episode about Penny Blossoms. See below for a few links. The hijinx ensue when they get an order for 1,000 items with a 1 day turnaround (see the last link). This will change your mind in a heartbeat.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I love the comment about Penny Blossoms. :)

My problem with Etsy is also that I don't like to make the same thing over and over.

Good for you for starting a shop! I debated opening mine too. I finally did, and unfortunately haven't made any sales yet, but I'm hopeful! (guess it doesn't help that several life issues interrupted my crafting time, and I haven't added anything new for a while!) I am busy sewing new items now, and hope to list them soon!(BTW, I'd LOVE to have your feedback about my shop) I don't much like making repeat items either, too many ideas in my head! Because of your diverse interests, a good name for your shop would have been, 'Eclectic Crafts'! Sorry to have rambled on! Have a fantastic day!
