This might just be a coincidence....

But I saw this on {Living with Punks} yesterday. It was her weekly post for {Momtastic}

And it looks AWFULLY familiar to me.

Rememer my "Jewelry Making for the Non Jewelry Maker" series from back in December? {Find it here, it's a great series!}

I mean, she used the same pleated ribbon, and even velcro, just like I used! I'm sure it's just a coincidence, I mean, why in the world would someone that big read my lil ol' blog? Plus, pretty much everything has been invented, there is hardly anything original in the blog world..

Still. I felt a little cheated. Has this happened to anyone else before?

yep and it makes me a little crazy. However, A few years ago though when our etsy store sold hair bows we got a scathing e-mail from someone who insisted that we stole her idea (kazashi hair bows for girls w/ matching bow ties for boys). I had never heard of her or her shop. I guess you just have to hope that everyone has integrity and assume it's just a coincidence.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not but I know I've seen the biggest blogs do it frequently and NEVER give credit to the smaller blogs (and if you follow crafts' blogs like I do, you know which blogs I mean). I really respect the blogs that write: "I got this idea from so and so." Or, "I was inspired by this blog, go check out their version." Or even, "This blog and I had the same idea!" Those are the blogs I support. You must have felt a little sick when you saw how similar that bracelet was - whether it was done on purpose or not. People say being copied is the highest form of flattery. My response: if you've had your stuff copied you know it isn't. The highest form of flattery is attribution and a nod of thanks in your direction.

The only time I have had a problem is with my etsy shop. Every so often I will get an email from someone saying how they noticed how "odd" or "suspicious" it may be that certain items in my shop are similar to their designs too! And how copying isn't cool. One of my favorite things is to get emails from people who have opened there etsy shop AFTER I did and claim that I was playing off their originality......Really? Considering I have been selling those certain items for a YEAR longer than they have....I just roll my eyes and say, "Dang, we must think a like, you want me to add you to my circle, then we can network"....lol. That is the hard thing with crafty people, we all seem to have the same ideas, lol. But you gotta remember, no matter how big or small the blog is, it shows real integrity when you give a shout out to those who inspire you or a certain creation. And when people don't do that, well that is to bad for them, lacking that good quality. =)

Put it down to great minds thinking alike. :-) I thought I had an original idea with using trouser legs as a wine carrier but found that another like-minded lady had crafted something similar. I just put it to concidence and blog that other people have done similar crafts, or I was inspired by them and wanted to do my own. :-)

Yep. My book lamp. Twice. The first one was IDENTICAL - same paint and book colors and everything.

it has happened to me before. If it makes you feel any better I like yours better. I always feel a little cheated but I'm sure I do it to people without knowing it too.

Yes! This happened to me too just recently actually! Granted, my etsy shop has been closed for a little bit now, but I stumbled across some pics the other day that even looked almost identical to mine... so much so that I had to do a double take! Same exact flowers, same number of clips, very similar layout and camera angle, extremely similar background, everything. My husband even stopped by the computer and was like...hmmm... wait a minute. It did drive me a little crazy and I felt a little cheated too, but I guess that anyone can get those supplies from the same place and make them...
I really hope they didn't copy your work and it was just a coincidence! I would really wonder if it was the same colors/fabric/buttons, so it is probably more of a coincidence I would guess. It definitely is frustrating though!
