Winter Wrap Up

'Cause tomorrow spring is here!! I've been waiting ALL SEASON for this post. No lie.

Sorry for my absence. My cat is dying, we expect the worst when we take her to the vet tomorrow. Even if you don't know me personally, I think the title of my blog gives away that with the loss of my beloved 15-year-old cat I am just all to pieces. I haven't lost a pet since I was in second grade so I just have no idea how to deal with this. I feel silly with how strong the grief is, but it's overwhelming.

Jellybean and I, summer 2006. Hence the lack for wedding ring. Oh Jellybean...I don't know how I'm gonna live without you.

Any coping advice would be greatly appreciated. More than likely, I will go with her to the vet tomorrow to be put down. I can't bear the thought.

Amie, I'm so sorry to hear about Jellybean. It's always so hard to lose a pet. I've lost a few over the years (some of old age related causes and some very sad and untimely) and there's no easy way to deal with the grief. The worst thing about being a pet owner is knowing they won't live as long as you. You just have to remember that Jellybean has had a wonderful, long life with you. The next few weeks will be really hard but soon remembering your kitty will make you smile instead of cry as you think of your friendship. Tomorrow will be hard but she'll be happy with you there.

I am so sorry! I have been thru this and nothing is easy about it. I just kept reminding myself that my fog was always there for me and now its my turn to be there for her. Just take a deep breath and focus on the good times that you had. I will be thinking about you

I cannot tell you how sorry I am about Jellybean. Just remember all the good times and pleasure she brought to you. She has had a good life with you and will be free of pain and have a wonderful life when she gets to the Rainbow Bridge. I alays got another cat right away to help me thru the grief. My family still talk about the cats we have had thru the years and you will too about Jellybean. Of the pets I have now I know only my parrots will outlive me, at least I hope they do. My thoughts are with you, take care.

I'm so sorry about your loss. The picture of one of your cats sitting inside the frame on the floor of your jewelry-holder post still makes me laugh. "Seriously, what is it with cats??" (10/17/2011) My cat always does that too, and I thought I was the only one!

You seem to truly understand how much love our pets give us back--whether from a cozy purr on a bad day or a great story to tell at an awkward dinner party.

I will also tell you about a book I read years ago, and it made me have a whole new perspective on Heaven (but it's Young Adult fiction, not Christian.) It's called "Elsewhere" by Gabrielle Zevin and it's wonderful, so get it from your library or buy a copy. The description says nothing about the pet thing, but it's there. Elsewhere was the 2006 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

That's my best advice: remember the good things and go read a book.

Sorry to hear about your sweet pet. There seems to be an epidemic of this lately. We lost our dear golden retriever last summer and two of my SIL's lost pets plus an on line friend. Just hard... try to dwell on the love, fun and sweetness they brought to you and your family. And how much they helped you grow. Which of course they are still doing.
Hugs...
