Tutorial Tuesdays- Naruto Heabands

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone is going out and voting today! It's so important to get out there and help make your community a better place by voting.

Now, on with the tutorial! Remember my seriously awesome Halloween costumes? Today's tutorial will teach you how to make your very own Naruto headband!

They turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself. It was difficult to find something to mimic the metal of the headbands that still was able to wrap around the head comfortably. After much searching, I finally found something that worked really well!

Shiny, silver organza! I think it worked perfectly! To make one, you will need:
  • Blue knit fabric (cutting up an old t shirt would work perfectly here)
  • A roll of shiny organza (I found this in the $2.50 bin at Joann, there were tons of colors!)
  • Silver brads (look in the scrapbooking section of your local craft store)
  • Hot glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Fray check ( if any of your materials will fray)
  • Black permanent marker

Got it all?
Cut a strip of blue fabric three inches wide and long enough to tie around your head (will differ depending on age of fan. :)

Next, you'll need to cut out your organza. I left mine the same width it came on the roll (about five inches) and cut it 2 1/2 inches tall. I then rounded the corners and fray checked the edges.

After I had my "metal," I used a black sharpie to draw the leaf symbol on each. (First I drew with pencil on a sheet of paper until I liked it, then I placed the organza on top and because the material is so thin, I was able to trace over my template right onto my organza.)

Had to do a little math for the next part. ;) Just take the shanks off of the silver brads with your wire cutters. You'll end up with little bolt looking things.

I totally blanked taking the last picture, but it's really easy. Lay the organza centered on your blue strip. Hot glue three brads onto each side using a high temp glue gun. Since the organza is thin, it will seep right through and attach to the blue fabric. Then you're done!

Get out there and show off your nerdiness. :) Happy Tuesday! Make sure you check out all the awesome places I'm partying at!
